Baso Gas Valves
BASO™ 100% Shut-off Safety Valves
Baso ™ safety valves provide 100% shut-off of both the pilot and main gas supply in the event of a pilot or thermocouple (temperature sensor) failure. They are simple, reliable, easy to install valves and are both AGA and CGA approved.
Baso ™ safety valves offered by Charles A. Hones, Inc. include a unique internal flow interrupter for simple and safe manual ignition of the pilot flame: gas flows only to the pilot when the reset button is pressed to light the pilot. These low pressure (1/2 PSI maximum) Baso ™ valves can operate mounted in any position, though ambient temperature should not exceed 150F (66C).
Our broad selection of thermocouples and pilots makes it easy to tailor a Baso™ safety set to your individual requirements, from light duty to industrial strength.

Baso™ safety set includes ¾” or 1” valve, 5 ft. of pilot tubing, K16BA-60 5 ft. thermocouple of your choice), J99 Baso™ multi-mount pilot burner (or other pilot of your choice), 1/8” compressed fittings, and propane or natural gas orifice. Prices vary depending upon grades of thermocouple and pilot selected; please call for quote.
Pilot options: our own industrial grade Buzzer #50 cast iron pilot, Baso ™’s J99 multi-mount commercial grade pilot, or our light duty Buzzer C&N Bunsen pilot.
Thermocouple (temperature sensor) options: commercial to industrial grades in lengths of 48,60 or 72 inches.
Installation

2. Connect other components (such as solenoid or gas cock) at B (labeled “OUT”).
3. Connect one end of 1/8” pilot tubing at C (labeled “OUT”), other end to pilot.
4. Connect thermocouple (copper pilot sensor) to D. Hand tighten, then make 1/16 turn only with a wrench. Do not over-tighten!
5. Using soapy water, check all gas connections thoroughly for leaks.
1. Press down and hold red reset button E.
2. While holding down button E, light pilot.
3. Allow thermocouple to get hot (about 10 to 15 seconds).
4. Release button. Pilot will remain on and gas will pass through valve to burner.

BUZZER flame safety in a nutshell:
Flame safety is a critical aspect of any gas-fired system, but it can present puzzling choices. What equipment do you need? Which parts can be substituted? At Charles A. Hones, Inc. we use Johnson Control’ line of Baso™ safety valves and other components to tailor flame safety on Buzzer gas burners and furnaces to the user’s needs. This brief guide can help you select the right equipment for your job.
The H15 series Baso valve will provide 100% shut down of gas flow in the event of pilot failure. The H15 series valve is recommended for low pressure gas only (1/2 PSI or 14”w/c). We supply this valve in four types of sets, as follows.
1.) ¾” Baso set includes:
• H15DA-3C Baso valve
• J99 style pilot
• 5’ of aluminum tubing
• 1/8” compression fitting
• K16BA-60” thermocouple
• Natural and L.P. gas orifices
This set can be used on pipe burners, smaller ring burners (311 or smaller), discport burners, urn burners, 55 oven furnace, 1414 & 1818 Fire-Box™ oven furnaces, and smaller melting furnaces (#1000 or smaller). List: $180.
2.) 1” Baso set includes:
• H15FA-1C Baso valve
• 1/8” compression fitting
• J99 style pilot
• K16BA-60” thermocouple
• 5’ aluminum tubing
• Natural and L.P. gas orifices
This set can be used on larger pipe burners and burners such as FR-14 and multiple pipe burners that include cross flame pilots. 1” Baso set can be used on larger ring burner and discport burners (606, 606A, 312 and 313), larger 2020 Fire-Box oven furnaces and larger melters (#2700, 171A and 172). List $250.
3.) 3/4’” Baso set w/ #50 pilot includes:
• H15DA-3C Baso valve
• Two 1/8” compression fittings
• #50 Buzzer cast iron pilot
• K16BA-60” thermocouple
• 5’ of aluminum tubing
• Mounting brackets and holders
This set is used on applications which require a stronger, more reliable pilot. This set is used on V11, V12 burners, larger pipe burners, nozzle burners, immersion burners, and application in which the pilot is subjected to reflective and/or radiant heat. This pilot set is often used when the pilot is located several inches from the main burner, such as on the outside wall of a boiler or oven. In such applications, the pilot is positioned to fire through a “pilot port” to ignite the main burner. List $361.
4.) 1” Baso set w/ #50 pilot includes:
• H15FA-1C Baso valve
• Two 1/8” compression fittings
• #50 Buzzer cast iron pilot
• K16BA-60” thermocouple
• 5’ of aluminum tubing
• Mounting brackets and holders
This set is the big brother of the set above. It is used in all of the same applications in which a rugged cast iron pilot is required. We recommend this set on the largest ring burners (V13, V14, V116A-113A), the largest discport burners (607A, 608A), and all the larger nozzle and immersion burners (VNB 250, 300, and IH 250, 300). List $431.
Note: Many Buzzer furnaces already include a #50 cast iron pilot (including the 171A, #250, #2700, ACR 60, and 185 salt bath furnace). Many Buzzer furnaces also come equipped with a redundant pilot system in which the smaller J99 style pilot ignites off the larger #50 cast iron pilot. Please call the factory if you have any questions. Additionally, parts can be substituted. For example, for an IH300 straight style complete with solenoid valves, gas cocks, and pressure gauges, you will need to replace the 60” thermocouple with a 72” thermocouple. This would add $16.00 to the cost. Please refer to the parts price list or call the Hones factory to assist in such modifications.
